Re: [Everything doTERRA] ingrown toenail

I know of no way to dissolve the nail that is growing into the side of the toe. I would apply Melaleuca to the area for the infection but the nail that is growing into the skin needs to be removed. I used to use a thin pair of nail scissors to remove my ingrown toe nails and I never had to go far down the side of the toe. It was usually high enough on the side that it was easy to get. I am not recommending that you do this. He could have possibly been cutting his toe nails improperly, he should be cutting them straight across and not curved.
If you can get the inflammation under control the medical doctor would be able to remove the nail without to much trauma. The most he would do was numb it. If there is infection he would no doubt recommend an antibiotic. Hard to know without seeing it. And if I did see it I would probably tell you the same thing.

When caring for my mom, my sister-in-law used to take her mom and my mom to the foot doctor about every 6 weeks and have their toe nails clipped. This was done to prevent ingrown nails and keep an eye on the health of their feet.

Hope this helps you,
Pat

My teenage son has an ingrown toenail.  It has gotten a bit swollen and red on the side.  Is my only option to take him to the doctor or is there a way to treat this from home, using the oils?  I would love any thoughts on this.  I always like to try treating things naturally before having to go to a doctor.
