Re: [Everything doTERRA] DOterra Oils and the GAPS diet for paediatrics

I have a son who is on the spectrum and I have been contemplating this diet as well.  It will be very hard because like your friend's son, my son is a picky eater, but way overeats on the things he wants.  He's sensitive to lots of textures, but if it is soft and creamy-he knows no end.

I have a few friends who have children with autism who attend the same school my Sam does.  They have done the grueling diet, through some of the top doctors in the field and have had great success.  One mom in particular, her son now at 8 years old is doing fantastically well with his developmental things, but is now back on a regular diet because his gut was healed.  I don't know if anything can completely cure autism, there are so many factors involved and still too many unknowns.  For my son, he actually has xxyy syndrome, but within that has characteristics and delays that place him on the spectrum.  This could change, it could not.

I don't see anything wrong with trying it all.  I am a total oil freak and use it for everything, but honestly, I have not seen them help him with his delays or behavior issues as I had hoped.  It may be something that will take a lot of time before I see the effects, but I keep using them.  I believe in them, but I think they are just one of many tools.  For us, we have found that meeting his sensory needs through a program called Floortime has been an amazing tool!  It allows them to meet their needs through play and direct interaction with the caregiver.  I also believe that diets can be a huge help sometimes and am currently researching enough before I start, but will most likely give it a try.

Hello!  I don't know anything about GAPS.  Thanks for explaining it - I love learning new things.  I am always interested in neuro-related topics.  I know that Frankincense has been a most wonderful choice for us as far as the nervous system goes.  We now, however, also have Patchouli, which Dr. Hill said is protective of and "supportive of the tissues of the central nervous system, which are the most sensitive in the body."  He recommended it be applied to the base of the skull, the bottom of the feet, the roof of the mouth or under the tongue.  He said he recommends it be used with Balance, Frankincense, and Vetiver.  We know it crosses the blood brain barrier, so that's also a wonderful thing where nervous system issues are concerned.  Much of communication and learning speech comes from healthy nerve connections, transmitters, etc., which would be supported well with Patchouli, I would imagine.  That is what I would try.

Best of luck to your friend.  As a fellow oil freak :) I would definitely prefer to use the oils than turn diet upside down, potentially still only getting him a fraction of what his body is looking for in that food.  I am tempted to think he eats so ravenously because his body is looking for some of the things our oils may be able to supply but which he can't find in large enough quantities in his food, but that is pure speculation.  Food these days is a shadow of what it used to be, nutritionally, no matter how carefully or healthily you eat.  I would love to see the oils supplement the nutrition he's getting to fill what he's looking for.

Please update us.

HI all you other oil freaks! Im including myself in that category 8) ,
just wondering if there is anyone out there that knows anything about
a special diet for developmental delay in children, called the GAPS
diet.
Its based on research that there are neurotransmitters in both the gut
and the brain and that in about 25% of kids who exhibit developmental
delay that cant be "labelled" as eg:autism, that adhereing to this
strict grain free diet with heaps of supplemental foods, for 2 years,
will result in the childs developmental problems disappearing as the
link b/w the gut and brain is repaired. But its very  intense for the
parents involved with a cooking regimine that has to be strictly
adhered to and is almost a full time job.
I have a girlfirend with a little fellow(2 years old)  who is
xontemplating wether or not to start this diet. He is participating in
very intensive therapies a the moment including physio, speech
therapy, music therapy, hydro, occupatioal therapy and dietary
controls. She works so hard to try and improve tha life of her child
and I would dearly love to be ble to recommend some oils for her to
try. A very highly specialised paediatrician ahs diagnosed that he
thinks the child fit sinto the category of children who can
potentially benefit from the GAPS Diet.ie undiagnosable developmental
delay that isnt any particular syndrome.

He has many allergies* nuts gluten and dairy are the main ones, has
had great difficulty expressing him self with any language, has
hyperplasia? of the hip joints ( turning out) and has to wear
callipers to allow him to walk,  and seems to be failry obsessive with
food and over eats if not watched.
If anyone has any experience or knowledge re this diagnosis for kids
Id love to hear about it.

Re: [Everything doTERRA] Re: PB Assist?????

I understand about coming out with a new one, but I guess I'm stumped as to why they did away with the other before the new one was released.  I had bought some right before they discontinued it.  Is it still okay to use?  or did they find something wrong with it and discontinue for that reason?

doTerra is coming out with a new probiotic, said to be the most cutting edge PB on the market today. They are really excited about it, and will present it on Dec. 1, 2010.
Only two months to go!!

[Everything doTERRA] Re: Physical Therapists

Hey there Chris: Could you contact that "spa" that everyone talks
about in Las Vegas that uses the DoTerra essential oils
exclusively???--I bet they would have a wealth of information. Just a
suggestion.

RE: [Everything doTERRA] injured foot tendon or ligament.

Carla – I pulled some tendons and ligaments in my foot and I used Lemongrass, Marjoram and White Fir several times a day, with Peppermint for the pain and it went away in a few days.  Hope you get feeling better really soon!

I guess I have injured a tendon connected to my pinkie's neighbor toe by just walking up a hill.  suddenly it was on fire, and the bottom of my foot is very swollen and painful.  It isn't broken.  Any ideas?  I think it might have started with a corn on the same toe, that makes it bend downwards.  So if anyone has ideas for getting rid of corns, that would be fantastic.  I teach school, so I can't stay off it, but I am really trying to be nice to it.

Thanks!

Subject: [Everything doTERRA] Toddler with something weird on tongue

Hi doTERRA friends,
I could really use some help. My toddler has a weird gray/brown
something on her tongue. It looks really yucky. It seemed to come out
of no where. Most of her tongue is a normal color, but the top back
2/3 thirds has some sort of coating on it. Something you should know -
I am nursing her - I noticed it after nursing her two nights ago. I am
familiar with thrush - this does not look like it. At first i thought
it wiped off, but now it doesn't. She was on an antibiotic at the
beginning of September for a boil on her bottom that the doctor
thought might have been MRSA and insisted that she needed the
antibiotic. I treated her with Thyme & On-guard along with the
antibiotic and feed her lots of yogurt. She isn't eating well, but she
never really has - she has always nursed A LOT. She has been drinking
Lemon EO in her water and I have been putting thyme, geranium, &
melaluca on her feet and this morning i put diluted melaluca right on
it. I tried to get PB Assist, but the company is out of it until Dec.
1.
Thanks for your time & help!
Cory
