I know it disinfects and kills all bacteria in the clothes.  My husband sweats a lot and not even Clorox 2 could get out the odors, I did use Febreeze for the laundry before doTERRA and it did an OK job of getting out the odors, but NOTHING touches Purify as to how well it works. Even his older shirts that have had numerous washings came out smelling so nice and fresh and that was in cold water.  I still use bleach in my whites.
