Re: [Everything doTERRA] Re: Lotus frustration

Read all your emails. This sounds exactly like my diffuser. I ended up replacing the ionizer (the entire silver part in the bottom.) now it works great and I really don't clean it. I did this in Feb and it is working great!

Sorry, I was offline for a couple days.

Again, I have never filled the water past the line--I keep it just below.  That is NOT the issue.

doTerra is offering to fix it for a fee, but I've not had it very long, so I am going to ask if they'll do a return.  I just hate to spend money on shipping it back when it is likely a defective product.  It stopped working correctly within a couple weeks.  It makes me so sad because I really love it when it works well.  And for the price, I expect it to work better for longer.  doTerra's rep is telling me that it sounds like I use it too frequently???  =(  Why such inconsistent results--some of you here have said you use it just as often as I do and don't clean it!  =(

The LemiShine is a great idea--I use that for my dishwasher, so I already have some on hand.  I just worry because the directions say to use MILD cleaners.  I've only used vinegar or lemon oil to clean it.

Here is a copy/paste of the emails between me and doTerra regarding this:

Subject: dōTERRA: Lotus diffuser

Hi Kinda new to doTerra, have had my Lotus diffuser for just a few weeks. I wondered if you've had consistent feedback of this diffuser occasionally not working? Randomly it will just not vibrate/bubble when turned on, even though there is still water & oils sufficient for another go. Then a few hours later, I'll try again and it works just fine--no change, didn't even dump out the oils/water. Is this common? Should I call the manufacturer? THANKS! You guys rock!!! Totally LOVE this company!!! Elaine

Dear Elaine,

Thank you for your email. There are a few things that you can check with your diffuser.

If the diffuser is not misting, it is possible that you are using too much water or not enough water. If the water level is too low, the diffuser will stop. If there is too much, the diffuser will not mist properly. Usually, if the water level is just below the fill line, the diffuser will work perfectly.

It is also possible that your diffuser needs to be cleaned. The diffusers need to be thoroughly cleaned at least twice a week with Lemon oil. First, run the diffuser with a couple of drops of Lemon. This will do an initial clean of the inner parts. (Make sure that you mix it with water like usual, as the oils will eat away the plastic if there isn't any water mixed with it.) Next, use the brush that came in the box to clean the inside of the diffuser where the water is. Do this after the diffuser has stopped running with the Lemon and the water level is low. This way, there is water and Lemon already in the diffuser with which you can clean. The most important thing is to make sure that you clean the metal piece in the bottom of the diffuser really well with the brush. If you don't, it will get gummed up from the oils. When this happens, the metal piece can't vibrate and the diffuser will not work.

Also, make sure that the diffuser is plugged in correctly, with the cord pushed all the way in at the bottom of the diffuser.

If you continue to have trouble with your diffuser, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you further with this matter. Have a great day!

Sincerely,

Breanne

Subject: Re: dōTERRA: Lotus diffuser

I'm still having troubles with my Lotus and I'm feeling very discouraged about it.

I really love this thing when it works!  But, I'm finding that I have to clean it after EVERY use or it does not work.

I've made sure I'm doing all you suggested.  I never fill the water past the fill line.  In fact, since I read this email, I keep the water just below the fill line.

I'm having to clean the Lotus DAILY.  I've run it with lemon essential oil.  I use the brush that came with it.  I even used vinegar to try to remove any remaining oil residue once or twice.  I still have to clean it every time I fill it.  And I use my Lotus all day long because I have an ADD daughter who schools online at home, and I use it every evening because my husband has sleep apnea.

I wouldn't mind so much having to clean the Lotus with every refill, but it's so closed off that it's really a pain to clean.  That brush just doesn't seem to be enough and reaching that brush down in there with my large hands is not very effective.

I've not used distilled water since the directions said not to.  We do have a water softener, but we don't always have the funds to keep it filled with salt.  I would think either way, it's tap water and not distilled.  Could this be the problem--softened water and/or hard water?

What else can I try to keep this working without having to clean it every day, sometimes several times a day?  It seems like an awfully expensive product to have to clean every day, unless I am using it more than the manufacturer intended.

Any more feedback would be helpful.

Thank you.

May 2nd:

Elaine,

I am sorry that you are having such an issue with the lotus. Honestly, it sounds like you are pumping quite a bit of oil through it a day and so this would require more frequent cleaning. Now when it comes to hard water issues, there would be no difference. If you think there is an issue with your diffuser, we would be more than happy to look it over and repair it for a small cost. would you like to try that?

Thanks,

Seth
