[Everything doTERRA] Re: cholesterol

Does your family also have a history of early onset heart disease? Do
you also have high blood pressure (in particular, high diastolic
b.p.)?

Cholesterol is used in the body in our cell membranes, and also is
used to make hormones like estrogen and testosterone. Our bodies make
80% of the cholesterol we need, with the other 20% coming from our
diet. When blood levels of LDL cholesterol get too high, HDL
cholesterol takes it to the liver for disposal, in the normal course
of events. However, some people have a hereditary condition in which
the cells of the liver lack an LDL receptor. This makes it difficult
if not impossible for the liver to flush LDL cholesterol out of the
body. This may be the case with you. I would encourage you to eat a
very healthy diet using lots of fresh vegetables and fruits. Avoid
processed foods as much as possible, and reduce your intake of animal
products. This will hopefully help keep your LDL levels in check, as
diet is where we get most of our LDL.

Contrary to popular belief, high cholesterol is not the bogey-man that
we have been lead to believe it is. Check out this site, and make sure
you go to the references this researcher links to: http://www.ravnskov.nu/cholesterol.htm
(Note that he does not have any connection with drug companies, he is
an independent researcher who for that reason has more credibility in
my books.) The link between high cholesterol and heart disease is not
definitive! For women, I believe I read that a link has never even
been established. In fact, one famous study found that after age 65,
LOW cholesterol was more of an predictor of heart attack. Furthermore,
drugs that only treat high cholesterol do not lower the risk of heart
disease. The evidence for a heart disease/high cholesterol link is
very poor, but the medical establishment continues to put people on
dangerous drugs.

I don't have any insight into what oils you could take to lower
cholesterol. I would be looking instead at what oils will help the
heart and cardiovascular system, rather than focusing on
cholesterol.
