The white powder residue left on your counter tops around a water diffuser is the minerals in the water. You can get rid of this issue by using distilled water in your diffuser instead of tap water or filtered water. As far as the oil carried by water getting into your lungs, that is the whole point of the diffusing. Even a water-less/air diffuser creates tiny particles of oils to get into your lungs. Actually, the particles created by the air diffuses are smaller than the water particles created by ultrasonic diffusion. The difference is, any impurities in the tap water are not getting into your lungs, as only the oil particles become air borne when using a water-less/air system.
-- The most scary contaminant that can be in steam or ultrasonic diffusers is the pathogens that cause Legionnaires' disease. In an ultrasonic diffuser, contaminated water could spread the pathogens through the air attached to tiny water droplets until you breath them in and possibly develop an infection. This would require water you are using to fill the ultrasonic diffuser to be contaminated. It is relatively unlikely that this will occur, but consider using safe water to avoid this problem. If you use a steam or ultra sonic diffuser, I highly recommend using distilled water (which would not have contaminants, and to store that water carefully to avoid bacterial contamination of the distilled water prior to use. With those precautions, you should be perfectly fine to breath the mist and oil.

Hi, I always understood ultrasonic humidifiers compared to regular cold or hot water humidifiers were bad because if the fact that it is dangerousto allow particles so tiny to reach the lungs.I am nervous about using my lotus diffuser that came in my diamond kit and I was wonderingif anyone who understood the same problem, has a good reason why this would be different.I am not looking for testimonials as to how great the product is, I see those everywhere.I would just like it if someone could address the fineness of the particles getting into thelungs. I'm wondering does this unit maybe not generate as much moisture as a humidifier? etc.I realize this is a SPECIALTY question and I do not expect to get a lot of answers. Just the right one!Thank you!!PS, I am new to doterra and do not have any success stories yet.
