Hi,
I went through something similar a few years ago and it went on for about 9 mos before I really figured it out and this was before I knew about oils and I apologize for taking up list space with something unrelated.
I started breaking out in a skin rash that looked like an allergic reaction. I went to the dr and got prednisone which calmed it down, but it would come back. The dr told me that 85% of people w/ allergic reactions never find out what it is...but this was ongoing and I knew it had to be something I was doing on a regular basis. I thought it was candida...did a protocol for that which helped some, but I have a hot tub and every time I went in there, it would come back about 12 hrs after I was in there. It really drove me nuts.
This is a long story and I'm gonna try to cut it short, but I did some research and discovered that I might be having a reaction to bromine. Bromine is found in lots of things including the food chain. It's in pesticides, carpet, fire retardant bed clothes-especially children's, bread products (brominated flour), citrus flavored drinks contain brominated vegetable oil, plastic products, some personal care products, hot tub cleansers...
If you go back to chemistry and look at the periodic chart (just pulled this one up: http://www.webelements.com/) and look at column #17, you will see the "Halides" which is a group of elements that when the body is exposed to them, they act the similar. They are Flourine, Chlorine, Bromine and Iodine (the 4 most common). Iodine is the only one on that list that belongs in and is used naturally by the body. When iodine is not available any one of these others can "attach" (like a lock and key) to the iodine receptors in it's place, but the body doesn't really know what to do with it...it just takes up the space and "poisons" the system. Every cell in the body uses small amts of iodine, but tissues like the thyroid, thymus, breasts and prostate use the most iodine. When iodine is not available, bromine, chlorine and flouride can attach instead.
For me, I believe I had too much bromine in my system and the breakouts were from that. This is controversial from a medical standpoint, but I started taking iodine supplements (not from seaweed supplements like kelp, because there is now radiation found in sources of kelp and they are no longer pristine). When you give the body iodine, it "kicks out" the bromine from the receptors in your tissues and then puts a lot of bromine in your circulating blood essentially causing more of a detox reaction. If you already have too much bromine circulating from high exposure, it will cause the same thing. You can do something called the "Salt Loading Protocol" to ease the detox symptoms and you take 1/2 tsp Celtic Sea Salt (do not use refined salt as it does not have the minerals in it and can cause other problems), in 1/2 cup of warm water and follow with 12 oz more water. You can repeat this every 30-45 mins. until urination begins. This could help your symptoms, but if you're not replacing the bromine with iodine, I'm not sure it will give you long term relief.
Here is info about Bromine Dominance: http://breastcancerchoices.org/bromidedominancetheory.html
There is a book called "Iodine: Why You Need It, Why You Can't Live Without It" by Dr. David Brownstein. He is holistic dr who lives in Michigan which is part of the "goiter belt" of the USA and 95% of his patients (and those of his partners...over 6000 people) have been found to be deficient in iodine. He says that most of us are deficient in iodine because we don't take enough in from our food supply.
I had new carpets installed 2 yrs before the breakouts started, but they can give off bromine for a long time, and although my hot tub was low in chlorine, I believe the chlorine acted like bromine and caused me to break out. I've changed to a "mineral bag" in the hot tub with no chlorine or bromine and have had no problems. Plus I probably had bromine exposures from food and who knows where else.
There's also a thought that those "red dots" are cherry angiomas caused by bromine poisoning. Here is a website that talks about it: http://www.iodine-resource.com/cherry-angiomas.html Perhaps there are pesticides being used in your area that you're being exposed to outside?
This is a lot of info and I'm happy to tell you more about my story and how to get more info so feel free to email me off list. I would not recommend starting iodine without doing the research so you are comfortable. There's a huge community of people that can help with this.
I've been using oils for almost a year and absolutely love them! I know they can help detox your liver and kidneys but without getting rid of or managing the root cause, it probably won't last. I haven't gotten rid of everything bromine related...I don't know how you could do that in today's world, but I am managing quite well now.
I'm not sure this is helpful, but I have not had a breakout since I took some steps to detox the bromine from my system and that was 2 years ago. I didn't go crazy and take out my carpets and I'm not on the cleanest diet, but I did take some big steps which have helped and now the "smaller exposures" don't bother me or at least I don't notice it.
One other thing, is when I either got in the hot tub or went running and sweat a lot, I broke out....so I associated this with either heating up my body (increasing metabolism) and somehow causing more of a release of toxins into my circulating blood, so I did quit running for awhile just to ease the symptoms. I can run and sweat and have no problems now.
Okay...feel free to email me off list if this speaks to you.

Lately my skin has been breaking out in rashes that don't want to go away...and drying up and cracking and no amount of coconut oil and/or lotion seems to help.I know that skin issues generally indicate a toxic over load, but here's what I've tried so far:I am gluten, dairy, and sugar-free. I drink plenty of water. I do Bikram's yoga (hot yoga where you sweat out the toxins) three times a week. I did the GX/PB assist cleanse at the begining of the year. I take the LLV combo everyday along with 2 Phytoestrogen and 2 Terrazyme. I do an oil pull religiously every morning. I have tried melaleuca, geranium, and am currently trying lavender. The rash is red and moist and "angry" looking, then dries to a white flaky appearance with oils, however it seems to get worse when I work outside- little red dots appear. The rash has been in the crooks of my elbow and knees for months and just recently has appeared on my upper thighs, and today, on the inside of my upper arm.I apply coconut oil and helichrysum to my legs twice a day to help with varicose veins. I have noticed the skin on my legs becoming very itchy and don't know if they are related- though I can't imagine why this would make them itch.Any suggestions?--
