A cholesteatoma grows inside the head on the bone behind your ear (the mastoid bone).  You don't know you have it until it begins to affect you because of what the growth presses on.  He is having problems with dizziness, memory, balance and probably other things we haven't noticed yet.  Those have happened because of what the cholesteatoma is pushing on, not because of the cholesteatoma itself.

We would rather not have to go through surgery if we can avoid it.  Any ideas?
