Outside of doTerra, New Chapter makes a fantastic supplement called Breathe. It is largely Cordyceps mushrooms which target the lungs and liver.  About a year ago I worked at a health show and was exposed to smoke all weekend long from a neighbouring vendor who was doing a demo for his fry pans by burning stuff.  My one colleague was sick for months afterwards but I was okay since I was using that and my lungs are not great due to scar tissue from several bouts of pneumonia.  I think your friend could really benefit from it as well.  Tumeric in large amounts with coconut oil and honey can also clear the lungs (haven't done this yet but a friend who was caregiver to a smoker for 14 years and had really damaged lungs told me about this one - they totally healed - the Breathe from doTerra was helpful but not a permanent cure for him). 

Also make sure he does not use an ozone air cleaner!  It can further damage the lungs.
