Yes, including her in whatever she can be included in is good.
Emphasize what a big helper she will be to you; how much you and your new
baby will NEED her! How much it means to be a BIG SISTER, etc.
She will be more important than ever--this is key. And letting
her bring you diapers, hold the baby, help whenever possible, will help her.

One thing I did that worked wonders was to have a new gift wrapped and ready
for the older child after the baby's birth. Give it to her and tell her
it is a present from
the baby. (Children will believe this and be very impressed.) This is a
simple, effective
method for helping them welcome the new little one who is about to take
up mom and
dad's time and attention in a big way.
If they question it, (doubtful) tell them you knew the baby would /love/
to give them
a gift, so you helped them do it.

Hope this helps.
Warmest blessings,

Linore

Hi and great news!
I just want to put in a plug for calling the home of the new growing embryo by its accurate name--not the tummy, but the womb! It is confusing for a kid to think there's a baby growing in the place where Mommy's chewed up food goes so we might as well start modeling from an early age 'truth in advertising.' My eighth grader says there's a kid in her class who still thinks babies grow in the stomach. My older girl talked about my womb and the amniotic sac from very early on! Isn't that cool? Remmeber, whatever we tell them is what they will believe.

"They" say with pregnancy to try not to talk about it too much because it's such a long waitiing period for a little kid.

Have a great weekend!

Thank you everyone for your great ideas!  My daughter is so excited she has been telling people she was going to be a big sister before I was even pregnant.
 Rachel

I know I'm in my own little world, but it's ok. They know me here.

Re: Swine Flu Update

A good friend of mine in Healthcare told me the swine flu shot is pointless, because the disease mutates (matures and changes) so quickly, that by the time everyone has had the shot it will be totally different.

Here is a quote from the UK Press about how it has spread in the capital:

... Dr Oliver Pybus, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Oxford, said: "Predicting how the virus will mutate is rather like trying to predict the weather in several months' time - virtually impossible.

"The mutation rate of the flu virus is a million times faster than in animals, so it can change very quickly."

Therefore, II choose not to subject my body nor my child's body to a pointless flu shot that will change and not protect me from the future strains of this disease.

Especially because I work in healthcare and I know that most of the UCDavis Campus has received the shot as well as the Kaiser personnel in Sacramento. I'm not sure where this information is coming form but all the information the health care community is receiving states get the shot, not necessarily for your health benefit but to stop the spread...this is a Pandemic. Stop it's spread to those who are most affected the kids...

I was Elvira years ago before I lost my curves. *lol* My favorite Halloween Memory has to be giving birth to my daughter early in the morning. Thirteen babies were born that night. Yup, she's my spook!

That's funny! Madonna came on the scene when I was in high school/college, and I ALWAYS got, "you know who you look like?" Yup. Madonna. I had the crazy hair and kind of looked like her, though I wasn't into the lace gloves & such. Thank goodness both of us have changed significantly!

I like to read the following blogs:  dealseekingmom.com, kingdomfirstmom.com, southernsavers.com, and becentsable.com.  I subscribe to their feeders and can glance at the headlines to see what the best deals of the day are.  p.s. - went to Walgreen's again today and got $25 worth of stuff for $1.89!  (plus $5 of their register rewards to go back and spend later!)

See Sonya,

THIS is what I am talking about, LOL! Where can we find these bloggers (I mean the ones worth researching - there are so many spammers out there. I'd like to avoid those).
