I find it interesting that you say "Lots of health care providers are not getting the shot". Especially because I work in healthcare and I know that most of the UCDavis Campus has received the shot as well as the Kaiser personnel in Sacramento. I'm not sure where this information is coming form but all the information the health care community is receiving states get the shot, not necessarily for your health benefit but to stop the spread...this is a Pandemic. Stop it's spread to those who are most affected the kids...

Thanks for your post. Lots of health care providers are not getting this shot, hmmmm.

In my quest for information about this "pandemic" I found out that the defination of "pandemic" has been changed recently (It was all over the internet; could be WHO -World Health Org. or the National Archives of Medicine, maybe the CDC. I will be correlating this info for my website and am willing to share with anyone interested. Just respond to this email with contact info and I can send it out.

Hmmmm.....I work with autistic kids and their families and in my quest for information I got a whole new education. I love the internet because there is soooo much information out there - available for me, for my empowerment, whoo hoo!

I would also advise checking out the amazing websites providing information about Autism. There is a debate whether vaccinations which contain mercury are associated with Autism. Lots of good people out there providing information.

It's a great idea to google this and see the BIG controversy on this subject and then make an informed decision vs the huge marketing campaign based on fear. Should we? Shouldn't we? We are women who can do amazing things and we're really smart. We are the best advocates for our precious children.

What me and my husband did was keep our son in the loop. All the early appointment when you listen to the heart beat and the ultrasounds he was there for. He loved hear the baby's heart and seeing the pictures on the screen. He was even involved in picking out our daughter's homecoming outfit. And at my baby shower, my mother brought him a special big brother gift for him to open. I hope this helps and congratulations. Tameka Downing

Congratulations!!!  I was in the same situation this summer.  I purchased a book titled "What's Inside Your tummy, Mommy?" by Abby Cocovini.  It explains about the baby's growth month by month and with each month there is an illistration that is large enough to hold up in front of your belly so that your child can get an idea of what her little brother or sister looks like at that time.  You can find it in the children's section at the bookstore.  Also, include her in as many decisions as you feel comfortable with.  I let my children assist in pickng everything out when we went shopping for baby.  I also let my daughter help in decorating the nursery.  When it came close to my due date we set up a plan of action that would give each child a specific job to do when it was time to go to the hospital.  You can also check with the hospital or birthing center you will deliver at and see if they have a sibling tour.  That way she can
see where you will give birth and where you will recover as well.

I love your last sentence. May I use it with my family and friends? Allow your daughter to help you in all aspects of the new baby; helping you to set up the bedroom, the clothes in the dresser, etc. And when the baby comes, allow her to be as much a part of every aspect of the baby's care, including breast feeding, if that is what you plan on doing. I had four, and helped raise a few others. My children, their children, our children-it's all the same to me- all helped in one way or another with each new baby or each new child that came into our midst. Other children must feel that their presence is important to the well being of not just the new baby, but that their own presence is important to you and the rest of the family. Hope this will help. Since you are pregnant and your daughter is 4, has she asked yet how the baby got into your tummy? Or does she already have an idea? If she hasn't asked yet, but I bet she has, she will or, as I suspect, you
are a very wise mom and are already prepared to tell her if you haven't already. God Bless.

Congrats!! My kids are grown oldest is 32,30,25&23 so there was a space between. The older 2 were amazed by hearing the heartbeat. They likened to our horses hooves beating while running. And laying next to me waiting 4 the baby to kick "Make it kick Mommy" Take her to the Dr appt when appropriate. U guys have sonograms now that are way better that the "old Days" of my times LOL U can decide if she is of age for that. Have her "buy" a toy for the new baby, pick an outfit or two, and after u decide what kind of diapers have her pick the packages of em. The more involved u make to her comfort level the better. Even my 2yr old granddaughter helps me with my 7mo old grandson who I babysit full time when she is with which is quite often. It is amazing how gentle they can be and how they will copy u in the care u give. U may have to get her a baby doll one of those almost true to life kind for her to have when she needs "a baby of her own". Good Luck & Have Fun!! TERE

Congratulations Rachel!

I do have an idea-- have your daughter prepare a gift to bring to the newborn when they first meet. Also have a present from the newborn, perhaps. And if you can get that silly u-shaped pillow called a "boppy" its a really good safety net to have while your older one holds the new one.

Have lots of fun!

My sister let her 6 year old son in the delivery room when she had my niece. He seemed okay with all of it. Not that I would have done that, but the outcome was okay.

The second recipe may not seem good, but Whole Foods make a similar cookies and it isn't extremely sweet, but it is good.  I plan to try both.  My kids probably would like the first, but I probably will like the second.

This one actually has no sugar at all, the bananas and the dates (i'm sure you could use raisins) are the only sweet elements..

I'm definitely going to try the first recipe, not so sure about the second!
