Re: [Everything doTERRA] Newborn Vitamin K Shot & Eye Drops

I agree with Janae. In my case, my son had a long time in the birth canal and had a bit of bruising on his head. My midwife (Stephanie Fritz) felt it was prudent to give oral Vitamin K. I had previously told her I didn't want it unless there was enough bruising to warrant such. Since we were choosing not to circumcise, we really felt there was no valid need to give a Vitamin K shot.

As for the eye drops, I don't see a need for them, unless you've been in a questionable relationship. A few weeks ago I was surprised to realize that it's not necessary for c-section mothers to get the drops for the baby, it didn't pass through the birth canal. And yet most of society accepts it as part of the routine birth process. :(

My approach to childbirth is that there's nothing wrong with my baby until there's actually something wrong. Meaning, I didn't have any ultrasounds during my pregnancies because there were no red flags during the pregnancy. No questionable heart rates, no excessive sickness, no sudden weight gain. If that's fine, why dig deeper? When my son had the head coning from being in the birth canal so long (3.5 hours), we simply corrected it with chiropractic care.

The only thing we were actually concerned, and tested for was hearing loss. I'm profoundly deaf, we don't know if it's a fluke (suspected reaction to the HiB shot) or if it's genetic (then I'm the first in my extended family). But we also had a pretty good idea that he could hear before we tested him, he'd startle at loud noises. :)

Blessings,
Leah

If your baby has a traumatic birth, or will be getting surgery before it's a week old, vit. K isn't really necessary.  It's given to help the blood clot.  They worry about brain hemorrhage, and bleeding when circumcision is done.  your babies blood clotting factors will be low at birth, and gradually rise till they are the highest ever at 8 days old and regulate after that to a normal level.  the eye drops are for Gonorrhea, and Chlamydia, STD's.  If you have them and they get into your babies eyes it can cause blindness.  If there is NO way you could have those, no reason.  Good luck on your research!

[Everything doTERRA] Re: heavy periods

I've been using cypress. It has taken a couple of months, but I
really noticed a difference this last month. I'm hoping with
continued use it will keep getting better. I use it daily on my feet
for low blood pressure, and then the week before and during my period,
I put a couple of drops on my lower abdomen. I might try the geranium
next, too.

Re: [Everything doTERRA] Re: Fever will not go down, and rising.

Thanks Pat.
As I understand it I really dodged the bullet with my one-ear deafness. More often the high temperature results in total deafness. My doctor of many years ago (when I was 8 years old) surmised that I may have been sleeping off the fever on one side only, which exacerbated the problem on one side versus the other. His wife was deaf in one ear as well but with her they found out right after her bout with mumps and her parents had observed that she did indeed sleep on one side during her fever. In my case I had the mumps when I was 3 years old but my parents did not know of my deafness until I was 8. It is presumed that I originally had hearing in both ears at birth though.

I do pray that the original poster's son is doing well now. Please let us know.

You are correct Hans, thanks for sharing. I know that the fever can burn off certain inflammations but I know you have to be very cautious when fever is present. We had a lot of comments about the effects of high fevers for extended periods of time. So you really do need to show prudence when dealing with this.

Fever is good but it can cause problems. Very young kids can endure 105°F+ fever with little damage, but the same high temp in an older person can be seriously bad news. I don't know what the age delta is where damage can start to happen but perhaps someone else here does have that info.

White Fir helps bring down fever as well.

When sponging down a fever, use warm water, not cold. Add Peppermint
to the water. The evaporation on the skin of the warm water works like
sweat does, naturally cooling. It is not necessary to use cold water,
and it is uncomfortable to the person experiencing the fever.

Re: [Everything doTERRA] Re: Vetiver idea

I've seen elsewhere here where people will dilute the Vetiver with FCO to thin it out. What are the recommendations on that? I am thinking of diluting 15 ml Vetiver into a 115 bottle of FCO (OK, I would remove 15ml first). I wonder how that would work. Would I then use 7-8 drops of the mix for every drop of Vetiver desired? Also, will Vetiver affect the plastic bottle that the FCO comes in if I do this?

Right now I have taken the restriction out of the top of the bottle and just put my finger over it and dispense what I think is the right amount. That's not working out to well.

I use the droppers, too, but they don't fit the 15 ml bottles very

well.  And the lid on my wooden box doesn't close when I have the
droppers on.  But it's still worth it to be able to get exactly the
number of drops that I want.
