Be careful with the Xylitol, it has a laxative effect if you use too much at once. I wouldn't make Lemonade with it!Riki

Thank you all. I had forgotten about xylitol. Will go get some today, along with some good lemons. I asked him if he wanted to give it a go giving up dairy and refined sugar...we'll see if he cares enough to do that. I have more control over his choices at home, but at school? Aughghghgh! I don't even like to imagine the junk he's putting into his body there. I offer to make him lunch, but he mostly refuses that. Kids these days. I remember always choosing mom's sack lunch over the *&%# they had in the school cafeteria...and that was before pizza was an every day choice!
I really appreciate all of your help and advice.
Oh...and as far as the whole family participating....well, he's the only child left at home, and his dad is so stinkin' healthy it isn't funny...but he eats all the wrong stuff...cereal(he can't go a day w/o his Wheaties), white sugar, candy, ice cream....you name it. He is retired from the Navy. Once, when getting ready for a deployment, it took him 2 trips with his seabag full just to get his candy supply on board for the cruise. Crazy. I do finally have him using frankincense on his ak's to see if it will help them go away. Too many days in the sun surfing as a kid/teen. I really hope this makes a difference so he can realize the value of the wonderful oils!
Have a great weekend...and keep the great comments/info coming! I love this group!

Xylitol and yacon are both good sweeteners. Xylitol is also anti-bacterial so could be beneficial.--On Fri, Feb 10, 2012 at 8:36 PM, We7 <aktanner@gmail.com> wrote:
I have been reading that for some people dairy is a main culprit of
acne. Also, my dad said he had bad acne as a teen and could not eat
any chocolate. You might research those things. Maybe you could take
him to one of those alternative health people who do muscle testing,
and see what foods are causing him trouble. Instead of treating it
topically, maybe you need to eliminate the internal cause. It sounds
like you are on the right track to eliminate refined sugar. Even if
that is not the cause of his acne, you are still going to help his
body in a really positive way. We use agave, dates, raw honey.
Possibly the whole family needs to participate so he is not feeling so
isolated. Good luck! Let us know about your findings and results!
