I wanted to share an experience I had in the middle of the night.  I have a son who, as a small child, suffered from severe allergies.  Dairy and other things triggered a few anaphylactic episodes when he was little and up until he was 9 when he was diagnosed with celiac disease.  For whatever reason, by cutting out all gluten, within six months, all of the other allergies went away-including tree nuts.  We haven't had an episode in over 3 years.  Now that we use oils for everything, we don't even have over the counter medications in the house.  I feel that they are more dangerous for my little ones if they were to accidentally get into them and we literally have not needed to use anything in almost 3 years.

In the middle of the night, my son who is now 12, woke me up with an anaphylactic episode. It had come on gradually, starting most likely when he chose to eat something with gluten in it at school and then later having chocolate covered peanuts.  By this point, he was having a hard time breathing and said his throat was closing off.  I'll be honest, if I had had benedryl in the house, I would have given it to him immediately-just because I know it works and I was scared by how much he was struggling to breathe.  But I didn't have any and it would take me time to get dressed and go buy some. I didn't even feel like I had time to research what oils to use.  I opened up my cabinet and instinctively grabbed lavendar and peppermint and rubbed it all around his neck and chest.  Then I tried to figure out what to do next.  Within 2 minutes, his symptoms started to subside. By the time, I looked up which oils to use (which also happened to be the ones  I had used), he was feeling better.  I also added Breathe to his chest and had him put a drop of peppermint under his tongue.  We still stayed up for a few hours, just to watch him and reapply oils, but he gradually got better and better and is fine this morning.

Not only am I so thankful for the power of these oils-and the immediacy for how they work, but I'm also thankful for instinct.   We really are blessed to have these tools.
