She also might have been allergic to something synthetic being used in another melaleuca/tee tree oil. I know I'm allergic to many chemicals that are used to bind perfumes to soaps and make up. Ours are pure, so they don't have those additives.

I have a friend who lives in Florida and in January when I introduced
her to the oils she said she was allergic to Malaleuca.  I asked her
to try the oil and see because I believe the allergens come from the
leaves, the pollen, those outside places of the tree.  But the oil
comes from the "blood or soul" of the tree.  She put the oil on her
hands that were all cracked and rough from her work's cleaning
supplies.  The next day her hands were clear and no allergy reaction.
She has now used it on numerous skin ailments with no allergy
reaction.
