What I learned recently is that you want to wait 30 seconds between layers.  It takes 30 seconds for it to hit your bloodstream.  Give it a chance to do that and then put the next layer on, and so forth, otherwise, if you think about it, you're still blending.
 
Also, if you make your own blends, add one oil to another and then wait 30 seconds to allow it to do its own blending and assimilating before you add another to the new mixture, and so on.
