RE: [Everything doTERRA] Methyl Salicylate in Wintergreen

Yes Joni - that did happen, what they didn't say is that she also had other
problems that contributed to the condition, and that because of the OVERUSE
of those products (and the other things they contained) it unfortunately
caused her death. There are some cautions that should be used with
Wintergreen - and if you have a Modern Essentials book - look under safety
and it will tell you the specifics. The main one I remember is that
Wintergreen should not be used by people who have Epilepsy or any such
tendencies. Also, caution with pregnancy, and should be diluted with
children. When it doubt, use something else - like White Fir. I'm sure Pat
will have more information for you. :-)

Subject: [Everything doTERRA] Methyl Salicylate in Wintergreen

Someone I follow on twitter posted this article from the NY times
dated June of 2007. A young athlete died from over use of a pain
relief cream like "Icy Hot" or "Bengay". She was poisoned from the
main ingredient of Methyl Salicylate which is one of the main
constituents in Wintergreen. Obviously, moderation in all things, but
what are the precautions when using Wintergreen. Is there anything
important we need to be aware of when using Wintergreen?

Here is a link to the article

Thanks,

Joni
